FROTAE VOL:2 / Canción
Codes d’accès presents chamber music pieces by composers Tomás Díaz Villegas and Liberté-Anne Lymberiou.
Tomás Díaz Villegas’ “Canción” is a tribute to Chet Baker’s late, fragile and delicate vocals, in particular those featured on the soundtrack of “The Chet Baker Story – Let’s Get Lost”, a documentary made towards the end of the jazzman’s life.
Liberté-Anne’s FROTAE, “For Reasons of Tone and Economy”, acts as composer Liberté Anne’s musical incubator for these large ensemble works, which are performed by her long-standing group, the Liberté Big Band.
FROTAE’s acoustic, close-to-the-audience music is designed to convey the physical and auditory sensations easily created by the saxophone, in the hope of creating a visceral reaction in the listener. The group’s current repertoire contains jazz idioms, contemplative drones, harmonic textures, meditative ostinatos and collective improvisation, all inspired by various microtonal explorations.
At the end of each concert, post-show discussions allow spectators to ask the artists their questions. This allows the public a better understanding of the works presented and the artistic approaches of the artists programmed with a perspective of exchange, sharing and democratization of contemporary musical works.
